Competitive Speech, often referred to as Forensics at the high school level, is an academic team that focuses on public speaking, critical thinking, storytelling, and persuasive communication. Through the creation and delivery of impactful speeches, members build confidence, refine their communication abilities, and gain valuable experience in presenting to diverse audiences.

Northwood Universityโs Competitive Speech team has been a cornerstone of campus engagement for over 30 years, providing students with a platform to explore relevant and thought-provoking topics while developing strong public speaking skills. Northwood also plays a leadership role in the Michigan Intercollegiate Speech League (MISL), hosting the annual novice state tournament on campus.
At Northwood University, we believe that students who positively represent themselves and the university on the national stage deserve our support. Northwood University supports Competitive Speech competitors financially both in their competition travel and through available competitive scholarships.
