With over 40 clubs and organizations, including Greek life, esports, business groups, cultural associations, and academic societies, students can find their place to grow and lead. Students live in dormitories or modern apartments, each with amenities like Wi-Fi, study lounges, and laundry.

The campus recreational center includes a full gym, group fitness, and intramural sports like basketball, flag football, and ping-pong, free for students.

Getting involved outside the classroom can really shape your college experience, and Northwood University offers a variety of options. From DECA, AMA, and Mock Trial to esports, Greek life, and cultural clubs like BSU – there’s something for everyone.

Northwood University annually ranks high in campus safety, earning #1 Safest Campus in Michigan in 2025. Northwood has a campus safety team who are dedicated to responding to calls or disturbances.

In addition to campus safety officers, Northwood University utilizes the Rave Alert emergency notification system to aid the Northwood community in monitoring notifications regarding campus changes and emergencies.

First-year students are able to live in either Dubois or Miner Hall which are standard dorm-style rooms. The approximate room size is 12’5″ X 9’6″ and the space is shared between two people. Every two rooms are adjoined by a restroom with a shower.

Returning Northwood students are eligible to live in either single-style housing in Naegele Village Apartments or North Village Apartments, the newest on-campus housing, featuring modern apartments with one, two or four bedroom layouts.

Northwood University offers several dining locations on campus. From international cuisines to classic favorites, there’s something for every palate. Explore Dow Dining Hall, the Mid Cafe, Wolf Den, and North Village Bistro.

Events like “Go MAD March” connect students to the local Midland community via scavenger hunts and local business exploration. Annual celebrations like Homecoming, Values Emphasis Week, Go MAD Day, and cultural observance events bring campus to life.

Northwood hosts signature events like the student-run International Auto Show and the Stafford Dinner, giving students real-world event planning and leadership experience every year.

All Northwood University students are eligible for a free membership to the Hach Student Life Center. The Hach Student Life Center offers members state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including:

  • A Fitness Center complete with Cybex circuit strength-training pieces, free weights and training benches, cross trainers, treadmills, Zero Runner and upright and recumbent bikes.
  • The Fitness Center staff is trained in the operation of the cardiovascular and strength equipment and can help answer any questions that you may have regarding a machine.
  • Intramural team sport leagues – basketball, volleyball, flag football, ping-pong, dodge ball and so much more.

The Counseling Center provides free, confidential services for both mental health and personal growth/support. These services are focused on short term counseling intervention; students who need longer-term services are offered referral assistance and/or other university and community resources.

Additionally, Northwood University provides TimelyCare, a virtual health and well-being platform offering students 24/7 access to a wide range of services across mental health, medical care, and basic needs support—all without relying on traditional insurance. This includes on-demand emotional support, scheduled counseling and psychiatry, health and success coaching, peer support, self-care tools, and even crisis phone support, ensuring help is immediately accessible at any time.

The Northwood Timberwolves fields 18 varsity teams across many sports. Northwood competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) for varsity sports — the primary NCAA Division II conference for the Timberwolves.
