About Us
The Northwood Student Honors Association (SHA) is a student-led organization dedicated to supporting and connecting honors students at Northwood University. Our mission is to foster a community of driven, high-achieving students who are committed to academic excellence, leadership, and meaningful campus involvement. Through collaboration and shared experiences, SHA creates an environment where students can grow intellectually, build lasting relationships, and make a positive impact both on campus and in the community.
We host a variety of meetings, study sessions, service projects, and social events designed to encourage academic success, leadership development, and community engagement. Whether students are looking to collaborate on coursework, explore new opportunities, or simply connect with like-minded peers, SHA provides a strong support system throughout their academic journey.
Events & Activities
SHA members are actively involved in giving back to the community while strengthening their connections with one another. Recently, the organization participated in a volunteer project at Averill Preserve, where members helped clean local trails and promote environmental sustainability within the Midland community. In addition, members volunteered at Cozy Cats Cafรฉ, supporting a local organization while engaging in a unique and rewarding service experience.
Our programming continues to evolve with a mix of academic, social, and service-focused events. Past, ongoing, and upcoming initiatives include:
- Holiday Trivia Night
- Omniquest Discussions
- Monthly Community Volunteer Projects
- Spring Bash
- Faculty & Student Dinner
- Advocacy for the Honors/Academic Teams Lounge
We rotate volunteer locations each month to ensure we are making a broad and meaningful impact across the community.

Student Experience & Involvement
SHA provides a collaborative and engaging environment where students can stay connected, informed, and supported. Regular meetings are held in the Lower Miner Honors/Academic Room, where members study together, work on honors coursework, and share academic opportunities. Outside of meetings, members are frequently involved in service projects and campus initiatives that enhance both personal and professional growth.
The organization works closely with the Northwood Honors Program and faculty to ensure students are on track to complete their honors requirements while gaining valuable leadership and service experience. SHA plays an essential role in helping students navigate their honors journey and build a strong academic network.
Membership & Benefits
Membership in SHA is required for students pursuing an Honors Certificate or Diploma and is available to those currently enrolled in honors courses. Being part of SHA offers a range of benefits, including:
