Mock Trial team places 5th Northern Illinois tourney

Northwood University’s Mock Trial team placed fifth in the Northern Illinois University Mock Trial Tournament held Oct. 22-23 in DeKalb, Illinois.

“Our students earned that award with a record of six wins and two losses after competing against Purdue University, University of Dayton, University of Iowa and the University of Notre Dame,” stated Mock Trial Coach DeLois Leapheart.

The students who represented Northwood on that team are as follows:

• Lukas Baker of Belmont

• Teagan O’Bryan of Lapeer

• Brendan Van Sumeren of Essexville

• Caleb Banko of Byron

• Gabriel Cerda of Westland

• Riley Hayer of Clare

• Connor Bachteal of Saint Joseph

Finishing the tournament with a record of four wins and four losses after competing against Western Michigan University, University of Dayton and two separate teams from the University of Notre Dame, were the following Northwood University students:

• J. Austin Wolfe of Cincinnati, Ohio

• Kailey Hill of Burton

• JonPaul Burns of Imlay City

• Pietro Vitale of Woodhaven

• DeLorean Ishmon of Eastpointe

• Bankaly Camara of Ann Arbor

• Jaleigh Beckert of Westerville, Ohio

• Maxwell Lay of Linden

“Congratulations to the entire team for the teamwork that produced the following individual awards: Outstanding Attorney Award (Lukas Baker and Teagan O’Bryan), and Outstanding Witness Award (Connor Bachteal and DeLorean Ishmon),” Leapheart stated.
