Emerald Isle is Northwood’s 2026 Trip Destination!

September 29, 2025
Rocky sea cliffs with green grassy tops rise above crashing waves, under a cloudy sky—an iconic scene for your 2026 Trip to the Emerald Isle.

Travel the Countryside of Ireland and Toast to Free Enterprise

Alumni, friends, and supporters of America’s Free Enterprise University are invited to join Northwood University President Kent MacDonald and First Lady Dr. Mary-Ellen MacPhee for an unforgettable excursion through the Emerald Isle, July 12–22, 2026.

This small-group journey will immerse travelers in the breathtaking beauty, rich history, and vibrant culture of Ireland. From the lively streets of Dublin to the windswept cliffs of the Dingle Peninsula, and from the Aran Islands to the iconic Cliffs of Moher, guests will experience some of the world’s most enchanting landscapes while enjoying deep conversations and fellowship with like-minded members of the Northwood family.

“Mary-Ellen and I are delighted to invite you to join us in exploring Ireland,” stated President MacDonald. “These journeys are becoming a cherished Northwood tradition — bringing friends and family together on shared adventures that celebrate our values, strengthen lifelong connections, and remind us of the enduring importance of free enterprise. We look forward to another unforgettable experience.”

Highlights of the 11-day trip include:

  • A guided exploration of Dublin’s historic streets
  • A cultural immersion in Gaelic games
  • Visits to the Rock of Cashel, Jameson Distillery, and the colorful town of Kinsale
  • Ferry crossings to the Aran Islands with exclusive tours and local experiences
  • A scenic journey along the Dingle Peninsula and an unforgettable view of the Cliffs of Moher
  • Inspiring distinguished speakers who champion The Northwood Idea (including President MacDonald, who will share insights into Northwood’s future and its pivotal role in today’s world)

This year’s adventure builds upon the success of last year’s Alaska cruise, which drew together alumni and friends for a week of discovery and camaraderie. The Ireland journey promises the same spirit of connection and inspiration, all set against a backdrop of emerald hills, rugged coastlines, and timeless charm.

“As we travel together, I look forward not only to discovering Ireland’s beauty but also to the laughter, conversations, and friendships that grow from these shared experiences,” stated Dr. MacPhee. “Our Alaska cruise this summer created so many special memories, and I’m grateful for the deepened connections that came from those adventures. Kent and I are delighted to host another unforgettable — and distinct — Northwood University journey, this time to the Emerald Isle.”
