Business Professionals of America students compete nationally

May 18, 2022

Bring home first, second, third and top 10 finishes

The Northwood University Business Professionals of America (BPA) team excelled at the May 7 BPA National Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas.

During the state competition, Northwood had over 70% of its team qualify for the BPA Nationals competition. However, only a fraction participated as nationals took place the same weekend as Northwood’s spring commencements, explained Julie Adamczyk, the team competed in a multitude of categories, earning 40 top-three finishes.

“Though we didn’t have many students who were able to head to Texas, those who did made Northwood proud,” added Julie Adamczyk. “It has been an absolute pleasure watching these students excel first at the state level, and now at nationals.”

Adamcyzk noted BPA has over 45,000 members across the U.S. Of them, 584 students from Michigan competed at nationals.

The following Northwood students took home respective honors:

  • Olivia Haring of Midland: First in Advanced Interview Skills

  • Luke Harry of St. Louis, Michigan: First in Integrated Office Applications and second in Database Applications

  • Riley Hayer of Claire: Second in Advanced Interview Skills

  • Logan Mathews of Harrison: Third in Payroll Accounting

  • Ana Marie Gonzalez of Mount Pleasant; Mario Hansen of Mount Pleasant; and Riley Hayer of Clare: Third in Financial Analyst Team

  • Kara Cotton of Midland: Placed in the Top 10 in Personal Financial Management and College Accounting
