June 19, 2026

Community invited to free, two-day event celebrating sportsmanship, culture and connection.

Northwood University will welcome players, families and community members to campus next month for Tricity Cricket 2026, a two-day event celebrating sportsmanship, culture and connection.

The recreational tournament will take place from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 11-12 at the Northwood University Cricket Ground near the Bennett Sports Complex. More than 100 players, supporters, and spectators are expected to participate throughout the weekend, including a team traveling from Cleveland, Ohio. The top two teams will compete for the Tricity Cricket 2026 championship title from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 12.

“Cricket is one of the world’s most popular sports, with a passionate following across South Asia, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Caribbean and many other regions,” explained Swapnil More, a Northwood University international marketing business analyst who is directing Tricity Cricket 2026. “The Tricity Cricket event will offer local residents an opportunity to experience the excitement of this sport while celebrating the diverse cultures represented throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region and beyond.”

Players and attendees will represent numerous countries, including India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan.

“Northwood University is pleased to host Tricity Cricket 2026 and welcome the broader community to our campus for this special event,” said Academic Vice President and Provost Dr. Kristin Stehouwer. “Cricket brings people together across cultures and generations, and this event reflects the kind of meaningful connection, global perspective and community engagement we value at Northwood.”

Admission is free and the weekend event is open to students, alumni, faculty, staff, families, local residents and anyone interested in learning more about cricket. Attendees are invited to watch matches, cheer on teams and enjoy a welcoming atmosphere centered on teamwork, friendship and cultural exchange.

Organizers hope the event will introduce more people in the region to cricket while strengthening connections among Northwood University, Midland area residents, and international communities represented throughout the area.

“Tricity Cricket 2026 is about more than competition,” Stehouwer added. “It is an opportunity to celebrate the people, traditions and relationships that enrich our campus and surrounding communities.”
