A Northwood University student from League City, Texas, recently returned from the Business Professionals of America’s National Leadership Conference as a national champion.
The competition, held in Orlando, Florida, the same week as Northwood’s commencement ceremonies, limited the number of students able to attend the national event. Of the 16 Northwood students who qualified, only two made the trip – and both emerged with national recognition.
Corbin Landrey of League City, Texas, claimed the national championship in College Accounting. Landrey, who is studying accounting and business analytics at Northwood, also earned second-place finishes in Payroll Accounting and Financial Math & Analysis Concepts.
John Walter of Bay City also competed, placing 15th nationally in Device Configuration and Troubleshooting and 18th in Project Management Concepts.
“Corbin and John did a phenomenal job representing Northwood University at BPA nationals,” stated Jennifer Freeland, associate advisor for Northwood’s chapter of the Business Professionals of America (BPA). “We’re proud of all 16 students who qualified for the national conference, and although most couldn’t attend due to graduation, these results demonstrate the excellence and professionalism Northwood students bring to the national stage.”
BPA is the nation’s leading career technical student organization. Nearly 7,000 attendees from nearly 800 school chapters attended the BPA National Leadership Conference, May 7-11, in Orlando, Florida. Students vied for top honors in BPA’s Workplace Skill Assessment Program competitions, which cover the areas of business administration, digital communication and design, finance, health administration, information technology, and management, marketing and communication. Conference participants also attended leadership development workshops and received awards for community service activities.
Reflecting on his extensive involvement with BPA, Landrey said the organization has left an unparalleled impact on his professional development.
“With this being my eighth year as a BPA member and seventh National Leadership Conference, it has been a privilege to have the opportunity to continue my BPA journey through Northwood’s BPA chapter this year,” Landrey added. “Next year, our chapter plans to celebrate BPA’s 60th anniversary by amplifying our impact at the 2026 National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee!”
