Northwood University will host its annual Move-In Day and Welcome Weekend August 22-24. The purpose of the three day event is to welcome new and returning students and their families as the University kicks-off the 2014-2015 academic year.According to Northwood University Michigan Campus President Larry Lindsey, Move-In Day and Welcome Weekend have become a very important part of the University’s culture.
“Our campus theme this year is ‘Connect for Success,” said Lindsey. “Move-In Day and Welcome Weekend are a perfect opportunity for us to communicate this and set the tone for another great year at Northwood University.”
Move-in Day will start on Friday, August 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of Miner Hall. As is the long standing tradition, Northwood University faculty, staff, student organization members and resident assistants will welcome students and help them move their belongings into the dormitories. Students and families will also enjoy an “Under the Big Top” luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside the Gerstacker Student Union followed by afternoon and evening of fun including the annual Student Welcome and Crossover Ceremony and a Carnival Party complete with games, food, music, and Ferris Wheel.
Highlighting this year’s activities are two important community service projects which will take place during the Student Organization Fair on Saturday, August 24 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Hach Student Life Center. In addition to exploring all the different ways they can become involved on campus and in the community, Northwood students will be able to make an immediate impact on the Great Lakes Bay community by contributing to two important service projects: “Kids Against Hunger”—which expects to assemble an estimated 1,500 food packets for the children and families in need—and the United Way Community Colors 5K—which will assemble the color packets for the United Way of Midland County’s second annual color race on September 13.
“Servant-leadership is an important part of who we are and what we expect of our students,” explained Teresa Sullivan, director of student life at Northwood University. “Both Kids Against Hunger and United Way are perfect opportunities to welcome our students back while teaching them the value of giving back to others at the same time.”
