June 15, 2022

Stanton named National Automobile Dealers Association’s president and CEO in 2020

Northwood University is pleased to announce Michael James Stanton Jr. has joined its Board of Trustees.

Stanton was named the National Automobile Dealers Association’s president and CEO in 2020. The trade and industry association represents dealers in government relations, provides education and guidance on regulatory matters, develops research and data, provides training and learning opportunities, and operates a charitable foundation.

Prior to being appointed as CEO, Stanton served as chief operating officer of NADA, where he oversaw daily operations of the association. Prior to that role, he served as vice president and chief operating officer of the NADA Used Car Guide, which was sold to JD Power in 2015.

Stanton also had several roles with NADA’s Industry Relations team advocating for dealers. He joined NADA in 2000, serving first as national sales manager for two years before moving on to become the executive director for Industry Affairs for the four years prior to leading the Used Car Guide.

“We are honored to have Michael join our board. He is a proven leader, most recently with NADA, which accelerates success for the automotive retail industry by representing more than 16,000 new-car dealers and advocating on their behalf before all branches of the federal government, manufacturers, the media and the public,” stated Board President Dr. Jennifer Panning, president of Artisan Tile, Inc. “Michael’s addition to our Board of Trustees is the latest development in a long-standing relationship Northwood has had with NADA. We look forward to his contributions to our board and thank him for his service.”

Members of the Northwood University Board of Trustees work with the President to help define the university’s philosophy and provide vital policy leadership and oversight. This oversight also includes the university’s financial performance, academic planning, advancement, and long-range planning.
