May 18, 2018

MIDLAND, Mich. – Northwood University’s Business Professionals of America team wrapped up a sensational season with national accolades at the BPA National Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas, May 9 through 13.“We are proud of the accomplishments of this year’s BPA team! We qualified 22 Northwood students for national competition, and all 14 who attended earned medals for their performances,” said Julie Adamczyk, Northwood’s BPA advisor and executive director of alumni relations. “Northwood also had two students in national leadership positions for BPA this year, so it was an excellent opportunity to highlight our students among those of business schools around the country.”

Two Northwood students took first in the nation. David Burkhardt of Flushing, and Kennedy Shea of Beaverton, won top honors. Shea, an MBA candidate in the DeVos Graduate School of Management, also took second and fourth place honors for her respective divisions.

Kristy Godley, Ithaca, and Jon Perrault, Escanaba, each received two second-place finishes. Perrault, a Northwood University freshman, also completed his term on the National BPA Board at the competition. Graduate student Hayley Tocarchick, Chesterfield, took home Northwood’s only third-place finish.

Rounding out the top placings were Jacob Taylor, Escanaba, Katie Keith, Flushing, and Sarah Alspaugh, Hastings, with fourth-place finishes. Taylor also completed a year of service on the National BPA Board. He and Morgan Bolinger, Perrinton, Katlyn Waters, Beaverton, and Shelby Slazakowski, Clinton Township, each had fifth-place finishes.

Placing in the top 10 medals were Hannah Ex, Oxford, Jordan McCallister, Beaverton, and Sara Brown, Tawas.

The annual conference hosted more than 5,500 students from all over the United States. BPA is an organization for high school and collegiate students pursuing careers in business management, information technology, finance, office administration and other related career fields with 45,000 members in over 1,800 chapters across 25 states and Puerto Rico.
