Northwood University establishes International Program Center in RAKEZ Academic Zone

January 22, 2021

Northwood University, in partnership with Western International College (WINC), announces the establishment of its new International Program Center in the RAKEZ Academic Zone in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Northwood University is set to strengthen their international presence through their Bachelor of Business Administration degree program offerings.

Opening in spring 2021, the International Program Center will attract a diverse set of students from Asia, Europe and Africa, in addition to students already residing in the UAE. Students can choose to study one of four business programs with majors in management, marketing, finance, or hospitality and receive a bachelor’s degree upon completion.

“The United States has maintained friendly relations with the UAE for decades, and it is a safe place to travel and study, which makes it such an attractive higher education location,” said Dr. Mamiko Reeves, assistant vice president and dean of International Programs at Northwood University. “The UAE is becoming a center for international education, and Northwood is the first American university to establish a presence in the RAKEZ Academic Zone. We are truly delighted with this partnership which expands our global footprint.”

The UAE borders Saudi Arabia and Oman and consists of seven emirates. The RAKEZ Academic Zone is one of the specialized zones of the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ), which is dedicated to attracting and supporting qualified educational institutions and service providers that are committed to delivering market-driven, educational, training and professional development services. Currently, it is home to 10 international universities.

“Establishing an international partnership in the UAE advances our beliefs about entrepreneurialism and the free-enterprise society to even more students and nations,” said Northwood President, Dr. Kent MacDonald. “There’s much to learn and leverage in our global economy and together with WINC and the RAKEZ Academic Zone, we are excited to introduce more students to Northwood values and ideas. Students will experience the same level of quality education that we offer at our main campus, particularly the experiential learning that our curricula bring to the educational landscape.”

“We are glad to welcome yet another renowned institution to our growing family of qualified education providers in the RAKEZ Academic Zone ecosystem. Northwood University is ranked as a Best Value Business School in the state of Michigan, USA, and we are confident that their offerings will add value to our goal of further elevating the standard of education here in Ras Al Khaimah, the UAE and the broader Gulf region,” said Ramy Jallad, Group CEO of RAKEZ. “But of course, our work does not end here. You can expect to see us entering more strategic partnerships with credible institutions that support more students and professionals in their advancement.”

This will be the fifth Northwood University International Program Center, with others located in Sri Lanka, China, and Switzerland. Northwood also has international affiliations with many educational institutions including those located in Canada, Germany, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, and the Philippines.
