Ducati Detroit dealership owner lands slot on Crain’s annual rankingIn 2013, Knoll, 31, opened Ducati Detroit, a dealership that exclusively sells bikes created by the Italian motorcycle manufacturer. In just two years, Knoll’s dealership has become the eighth most successful Ducati dealership in the United States. He recently signed a deal to open a dealership to sell another line of Italian motorcycles, MV Augusta. Details of that transaction are still under development.

Knoll, a Michigan native, earned his bachelor’s degree in automotive marketing and management and finance from Northwood University. His family owns Heartland Harley-Davidson in Burlington, Iowa, where he worked his way into upper management. As a teen, Knoll held a minority interest in an Illinois-based power sports business that sold in 2002.

“Charlie Knoll is a shining example of the kind of entrepreneurial business leaders who have studied at Northwood University. We congratulate him on this recent honor and on his ongoing success in the motor vehicle industry,” says Keith A. Pretty, president and CEO of Northwood University. “When our students graduate, they leave with more than a degree in hand. They leave with a true sense of business savvy and a drive to succeed in the free market, thanks to our focus on experiential learning and leadership that drives every course we offer in our programs.”
