Northwood Competitive Speech Team Places Fourth at State Championship

Northwood University’s Competitive Speech Team (Forensics) competed in the Michigan Intercollegiate Speech League (MISL) state championship tournament hosted by Central Michigan University on Friday and Saturday, February 28-March 1. The team earned fourth place out of ten teams.Four students made it to the finals: Cody Colella, a senior from Pittsburgh, PA, placed 5th in persuasion and 7th in after dinner speaking; Kirk Longuski, a junior from Bay City, placed 3rd in persuasion, 4th in impromptu and extemporaneous speaking, and 5th in after dinner speaking; Joshua Gammon, a junior from Midland, placed 6th in extemporaneous speaking; and McKenzie Terwillegar, a sophomore from Highland, placed 4th in rhetorical criticism. Winning his 3rd place in persuasion, Kirk Longuski is the alternate for Interstate Oratory, a national competition where the top two students from every state compete for the top position in the nation.

The Northwood University Competitive Speech team will compete in the Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament hosted by Indiana University-Purdue March 20-23.
