Northwood announces Freedom Fest Concert Series lineup

June 30, 2022

Free ‘Music in the Woods’ events set for July 19, Aug. 23 and Sept. 20

Northwood University has announced the lineup of its inaugural Freedom Fest Concert Series, which kicks off on Tuesday, July 19 with a performance by the Coleman Road Band from 6-8 p.m.

“All of us here at ‘Midland’s University’ invite the community to our beautiful campus to experience enjoyment for all ages,” said Northwood University President Kent MacDonald. “We’re looking forward to a series of great concerts, starting with the July performance by the Coleman Road Band.”

The other bands that will be featured in Northwood’s Freedom Fest Concert Series include Billy Gunther and the Midwest Riders, and Stone Street Revival (SSR).

In addition to an evening of great music, each concert will feature games for the whole family, food trucks, cake and non-alcoholic beverages. Attendees will have the option to purchase adult beverages from Tavern 59 for the July 19 concert series kick-off event.

Those who plan to come out should bring their own lawn chairs. Everyone is allowed to bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages on July 19. That concert will feature the Coleman Road Band, a five-piece band playing classic rock, blues, soul and R&B.

Billy Gunther and the Midwest Riders will perform on August 23. This is a country and classic rock band from Flint.

SSR is a premier musical group from Michigan that focuses on great songs you don’t often hear and 70s hits. Attendees will hear powerful vocals and instrumentation from this seasoned and professional band during its performance at Northwood on September 20.

All the Freedom Fest ‘Music in the Woods’ concerts will be held at the John and Marjorie Hohman Amphitheater in Midland. In the event of inclement weather, festivities will be moved to the Griswold Communications Center.
