Northwood Alumnus Dead Titus Publishes Photography Business Book

June 4, 2014

Northwood Alumnus and midland-native Dean Titus III wanted to help other entrepreneurs achieve their dreams of becoming professional photographers just like him, so he wrote a book to guide them called “Home Based Photography.” The book was published on May 6 through CreateSpace, an independent publishing platform by Amazon.”When I started out in photography, this is exactly the kind of advice I needed to get going, but I couldn’t find it, Titus said. “Today I’m fortunate to be living my dream of managing my own photography business, and I’m excited to put everything I’ve learned in my career in writing so that someone else can experience this same dream.”

Titus has drawn from 29 years of photography know-how, and in 212 pages he shares what budding photographers need to learn to launch a successful home-based business. This quick-start guide focuses on the business side of photography rather than teaching about the art and how to use a camera. “Home Based Photography” will guide readers through the process, from picking out their business name to marketing and customer service techniques that have taken years to perfect.

How to get the book“Home Based Photography” can be ordered through Amazon and the Barnes & Noble website.

About the authorDean W. Titus III was born and raised in Midland. He attended Bullock Creek schools and went on to earn an associate’s degree from Delta College, a bachelor’s degree from Northwood University and a master’s degree in business administration from the DeVos Graduate School at Northwood University.

He and his wife, Kendra, own Titus Photography, a small photography studio located in Midland. In addition to being a professional photographer, Titus also enjoys entertaining guests as a DJ for karaoke events and wedding receptions. He is ordained as a wedding minister and performs several ceremonies each year. He and Kendra also started a wedding planning website in 2013 called the Bride Discount Card to help local brides find local vendors.

When not devoting his time to one of his business ventures, Titus likes to listen to music, go out for a pontoon boat ride, join his buddies for deer hunting in November and hang out with his friends and family at the local American Legion Berryhill Post 165.

He and Kendra currently live in Beaverton, Michigan, on Wixom Lake with their two Boston Terriers named Esther and Jo-Jo.
