Miami Dolphins CFO is latest leader in speaker series

February 22, 2023

Northwood University is pleased to announce the next installment in the Leadership Insights: A View from the Helm speaker series will feature Chris Clements, senior vice president and chief financial officer for the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium.

“We are honored to host Chris Clements, a Northwood alumnus who now serves as a c-suite leader with the Miami Dolphins,” stated Kristin Stehouwer, academic vice president and provost for Northwood University. “Hearing from Chris, who is such an accomplished business leader and alumnus, will inspire our students to achieve their own dreams of success.”

Christopher B. Clements is in his 10th year with the Dolphins. As senior vice president and chief financial officer, Clements is responsible for organizational accounting, payroll, insurance, treasury, business systems, purchasing operations and business strategy as well as analytics for properties including the Miami Dolphins, Hard Rock Stadium and Formula One Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix.

Additionally, Clements managed all budget and expenditures for over $800 million in capital investments for projects such as the Hard Rock Stadium modernization, Miami Open tennis facility and the Baptist Health Training Complex.

Clements also is a certified public accountant, and the chief financial officer and treasurer of the Miami Dolphins Foundation and a board member and the treasurer of the largest team-driven charity in sports, the Dolphins Challenge Cancer, which gave a record $8.4M in 2022 and over $53M to date.

Clements joined the Dolphins after working at IMG Worldwide since 1996 in a variety of senior leadership positions, most recently as senior vice president and business unit chief financial officer of several sports segments in Cleveland.

In December 2019, South Florida Business & Wealth recognized Clements with the Apogee Award for being a top leader in South Florida Business. Finance & Investing named Clements one of the Top 25 CFO’s of Miami in 2023.

Clements earned his bachelor of business administration degree in accounting from Northwood University in 1996. He first learned about Northwood as a high school basketball camp attendee. He knew then that he’d like to play the game at the college level and eventually work in the sports industry.

“I was intrigued by Northwood’s business degree programs and its philosophy stressing the values of free enterprise, integrity and ethics,” Clements stated in 2015. “And the beautiful, wooded campus was a bonus.”

It was in 2015 that Clements received the Alumni Achievement Award from his alma mater. It is the highest honor the university bestows upon an alumnus.

Today, Clements is happily married to his Northwood college sweetheart, Sherry. They reside in Parkland with their three children, Riley, Ella and Blaine.

“We look forward to welcoming Chris back to his Northwood home for this insightful program,” Stehouwer noted.

The March 22 Leadership Insights event will kick off at 6:30 p.m. in Griswold Learning Hall.

The program will take place in a lively question-and-answer format. It will be live-streamed, and the audience will have an opportunity to submit questions through electronic polling software.

Northwood students, alumni, faculty and staff, as well as members of the greater Midland area and beyond are invited to attend.
