Leadership Insights to feature head of Auto Care Association

January 13, 2023

The head of the Auto Care Association will be the next c-suite leader to be featured in Northwood University’s Leadership Insights: A View from the Helm speaker series.

“Bill Hanvey is a world-class leader who currently serves as president and CEO of the Auto Care Association, which represents the entire supply chain of the independent automotive aftermarket,” stated Dr. Kristin Stehouwer, vice president of academics and provost of Northwood University. “We are beyond grateful to be bringing him to Midland.”

This fall, Northwood University announced the creation of a new speaker series, Leadership Insights – A View from the Helm, to give the greater community access to influential and effective leaders. The series kicked off with William S. Stavropoulos, chairman emeritus of Dow’s Board of Directors, and Terence F. Moore, former president of MidMichigan Health System (now called MyMichigan Health).

“We are so pleased to have someone of Bill Hanvey’s caliber follow up the extraordinary inaugural Leadership Insights session,” Stehouwer stated. “Bill Stavropoulos and Terry shared immense personal and professional advice, and we know Bill Hanvey will be just as engaging during our Feb. 1 Leadership Insights.”

The Feb. 1 event will kick off at 6:30 p.m. at the McNair Center for Entrepreneurship and Free Enterprise, located in the Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center at Northwood University in Midland.

It will be live-streamed, and like the first Leadership Insights event, it will take place in a lively question-and-answer format. The audience will have an opportunity to submit questions through electronic polling software.

Northwood students, alumni, faculty and staff, as well as members of the greater Midland area and beyond are invited to attend.

“This is a very exciting time for the automotive industry, including those working in the aftermarket sector,” Stehouwer noted. “Bill has spent his entire 35-plus-year career in the aftermarket, and in his current role, he has transformed the Auto Care Association by focusing on team development, grassroots advocacy and providing data back to the industry to enable better business decisions.”

During his visit to Northwood University, Hanvey also will meet with students enrolled in aftermarket studies. Northwood’s Aftermarket Management Program is very unique — the only one of its kind. Students in this program are fueled by their passions for cars, the aftermarket, and turning this passion into a career someday. Many Northwood graduates are top executives at some of the most prestigious companies in the United States.

“This upcoming visit from Bill Hanvey will be of great interest to our students and everyone who works in the aftermarket industry in this region,” stated Thomas Litzinger, leader of the University of the Aftermarket, which provides industry-specific professional development to those working in the industry through a partnership with Northwood University.

The entire public is invited to the Feb. 1 Leadership Insights event featuring Hanvey. Those attending can park at the Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center, which is located on Naegele Drive on Northwood’s Midland Campus. For more information, visit www.northwood.edu/leadership-insights
