Kennedy Named Regional Coach Of The Year

February 14, 2014

Head baseball coach Jeremy Kennedy has been honored as the American Baseball Coaches Association’s Regional Coach of the Year for the Mid-South region. The award was presented at the ABCA’s annual meeting, held last month at the Dallas Hilton Anatole hotel. Some 3,700 coaches attended the convention, and more than 300 exhibitors were also on hand.Kennedy is entering his seventh year as head coach of the Knights baseball program. Last year his team finished sixth nationally in the NAIA in doubles with 123, seventh in hits-per game with 10.125, tenth in slugging percentage at .459, and fourteenth in ERA (3.15).

The 2013 team also made it all the way to the NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho. At the Series Knights pitcher Cody Faulkner was the talk of Lewiston as the Irving, Texas lefty threw only the fourth no-hitter in series history.

The Knights enter the 2014 season as newcomers to the Sooner Athletic Conference. Northwood is the only NAIA team with two pre-season All-Americans – pitcher Cody Gray and second baseman Isaac Maturino.

A Kansas native, Kennedy is a graduate of Dallas Baptist University, where he played his collegiate baseball.  Kennedy and his wife, Heather, have two daughters.
