For the fifth consecutive year, the Kappa Sigma fraternity at Northwood University is observing the anniversary of 9/11 through a stair-climbing fundraiser and effort to place American flags throughout campus in recognition of all the lives lost from the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Fraternity members placed 2,977 American flags around campus earlier this week. On Wednesday, Kappa Sigma brothers will climb 58 flights of stairs in Hantz Stadium in honor of the first responders who climbed 58 flights of stairs in the World Trade Center towers more than two decades ago.
โOur brothers will climb 2,200 steps in honor of the brave 9/11 first responders,โ stated Chapter President Alex Nazarian.
The stair climb event is planned to begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024.
โThe stair climb, as well as the effort to place American flags around campus, is a way our fraternity shows our appreciation for our military and our first responders.”
Carver Petell, Philanthropy Chair
Along with Wednesday’s stair climb, fraternity members are collecting donations for Kappaโs philanthropy, Military Heroes. This organization supports ongoing care for military veterans and their families.
If you would like to support the effort, donations can be made through Sept. 12, 2024.
