Northwood University will celebrate the work and accomplishments of Friedrich von Hayek, author of the top-selling book, “The Road to Serfdom,” on Friday, April 25. Hailed as “Hayek Day,” the event will feature presentations on topics related to Hayek’s political and economic thought, most notably the business cycle theory for which he earned a share of the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1974.Gregory Alan Thornbury, president of The King’s College in New York, will deliver the keynote lecture explaining how the Bible’s “Book of Revelation” is Hayekian in nature. Prior to being named president at The King’s College, Thornbury served as professor of philosophy, dean of the School of Theology and vice president for Spiritual Life at Union University in Tennessee. A writer and speaker on philosophy, theology, education, spirituality, and public thought, Thornbury has spent his career in higher education.
Following Thornbury, Richard Ebeling and Alex Tokarev, faculty with the Department Economics at Northwood University, will wrap-up the afternoon’s events with a discussion examining Hayek’s political philosophy and business cycle theory.
The Hayek Day events will take place in the Sloan Family Building for Aftermarket Studies, room 109, on Northwood’s Midland campus, 4000 Whiting Drive. There is no admission charge or ticket necessary. Members of the community are invited and encouraged to attend.
