Lifelong Golfer Drew McGee Heads Texas Golf Teams

January 31, 2014

It doesn’t take long to learn that Drew McGee believes in getting an early start. Northwood’s new head golf coach is usually one of the first to show up in the athletics office each morning, can be counted on to be early to meetings and is at practices well ahead of his team.“We had well over a dozen coaches express interest in becoming our new head golf coach,” Northwood Texas Athletics Director Jack Allday says. “But Drew really stood out.  We liked his focus and maturity, not to mention his Baylor pedigree.”

McGee says his early impressions of Northwood and its Texas campus are all positive. “This is a great location, beautiful campus, positive atmosphere–-and the staff and faculty have been incredibly helpful.”

“My goal is for our men’s and women’s teams to win the NAIA national championship,” McGee says.  “I want us to succeed at the highest level. But as important as that, I want to help prepare these student-athletes for life after Northwood–not just to be successful on the golf course but also for the rest of their lives.”

There’s one lesson McGee is sure to teach his golfers.  “Whatever you’re doing,” the lanky West Texan says with a smile, “it’s always good to get an early start.”
