Competitive Speech Team Achievements at BGSU

The Northwood University Competitive Speech Team recently participated in two “Theme” tournaments at Bowling Green State University.

On Saturday, February 22 at the SuperHero Tournament I, Lance Johnson placed first in Radio Broadcasting, second in After Dinner Speaking.  Emma Scott placed first in Impromptu Speaking, third in Radio Broadcasting, fourth in After Dinner Speaking and Prose Interpretation. Raymond Prettyman placed second in Radio Broadcasting, fifth in Prose Interpretation and was a finalist in After Dinner Speaking. Sydney Murphy placed fourth in Poetry Interpretation and Program Oral Interpretation and fifth in Radio Broadcasting.  Matt Laming placed fourth in Extemporaneous Speaking, fifth in After Dinner Speaking and sixth in Poetry Interpretation.  Jaylah Ash-Shakoor placed fourth in Radio Broadcasting while Bethany Mathews placed sixth in Impromptu Speaking and was a finalist in Extemporaneous Speaking.

In addition, Individual Sweepstakes awards went to Emma Scott, second place, Matt Laming, third place and Sydney Murphy fourth place.  The entire team earned third place in Team Sweepstakes.

On Sunday, February 23 at the SuperHero Tournament II, Emma Scott placed first in Impromptu Speaking and Radio Broadcasting, and fifth in Prose Interpretation. Lance Johnson placed second in Impromptu Speaking, second in Radio Broadcasting and fifth in After Dinner Speaking. Matt Laming placed fourth in Extemporaneous Speaking, and sixth in After Dinner Speaking and Poetry Interpretation. Jaylah Ash-Shakoor placed third in Radio Broadcasting, fifth in Persuasive Speaking and was a finalist in Impromptu Speaking. Raymond Prettyman placed fourth in Radio Broadcasting, and sixth in Prose Interpretation. Sydney Murphy placed fifth in Radio Broadcasting, Program Oral Interpretation and Poetry Interpretation. Bethany Mathews placed fifth in Extemporaneous Speaking and sixth in Impromptu Speaking and Persuasive Speaking.

In addition, Individual Sweepstakes awards went to Emma Scott, third place.
