A message from President Kent MacDonald regarding the recent events in Ukraine

February 25, 2022

Northwood University stands with and for a free and independent Ukraine that has embraced free markets, enterprise, and democracy. Our thoughts and prayers are with our current and former students from Ukraine and Russia and their loved ones.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is currently the world’s greatest threat to freedom and the rule of law. His values and motivations are antithetical to the merits of a democratic republic and contrary to the tenets of Northwood University, which cherishes freedom, respects individual and private property rights while encouraging; empathy, spirituality, honesty, entrepreneurship, integrity, and responsibility.

As we enjoy the benefits of our freedom, it is inconceivable to imagine the unprovoked invasion by the Russian military of a sovereign country with the force and brutality witnessed over the last few days.

Please join us in praying for peace and freedom for Ukraine and the safety of the brave Russians who have publicly decried and called for an end to Putin’s invasion.

President Putin’s unconscionable behavior emboldens our commitment to Northwood University’s foundational philosophy, The Northwood Idea. Specifically, today we come together as an academic community that believes in the power of freedom to change hearts, enhance human progress, and to treasure all life. We will continue to keep Ukraine and Russia in our thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.

Please continue to monitor northwood.edu and our social media channels for further information as we organize material support for the people of Ukraine.
