Finished No. 6 in Debut at Selling with the Bulls, Feb. 19-21, at the University of South Florida.
Northwood University students ranked No. 6 in the nation during their inaugural participation in Selling with the Bulls, a national sales competition held Feb. 19-21 in Tampa, Florida.
Sponsored by Ricoh, Selling with the Bulls is touted as the “Toughest Test in Sales Education.” Events test competitors on the entire sales process including prospecting, networking, discovery, and sales meeting — all within 30 hours.
Throughout the competition, students focused on selling Ricoh’s next‑generation SD Series of A3 Color Laser Multifunction Printers, which brings advanced document‑management capabilities with an industry-first straight path single-pass document feeder and integrated digital workflow tools into a single platform. By centering their role‑plays, prospecting exercises, and sales meetings around Ricoh solutions, competitors gained hands‑on experience articulating the real business value of modern digitization and workflow automation.
The competition, which was hosted by the University of South Florida, brought together 38 universities and more than 150 top collegiate sales students for an intense, multi-round format that included over 1,000 live role-play sales meetings and more than 5,000 networking conversations with corporate partners and employer sponsors.
Students were evaluated on their ability to conduct professional discovery meetings, navigate objections, present data-driven solutions, and build executive-level relationships, all within a realistic, business-to-business sales simulation.
“Competing at Selling with the Bulls gave our students the opportunity to perform in a high-stakes environment that closely replicates real-world client engagements,” said Dr. Andrew Anderson, an associate professor of marketing and sales who advises Northwood’s American Marketing Association Chapter. “Earning a sixth-place finish in our first appearance speaks volumes about our students’ preparation, discipline, and adaptability. Ricoh’s sponsorship, along with the presence of national employer partners, transformed this event into a launchpad for mentorship, recruiting connections, and meaningful professional growth.”
The following Northwood competitors earned individual awards:
- Alexandria DeMitchell, of Freeland, Michigan — No. 7 in flight two and Winner’s Circle honors in flight two
- Addison Waito, of Marshall, Michigan — No. 3 in networking and No. 4 in voicemail
Dr. Anderson noted that the team’s debut performance establishes a strong foundation for continued growth at national competitions.
“We are proud of how our students represented Northwood University,” he said. “This experience not only validated their skill development but also elevated our program’s visibility on a national stage.”
