Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary in Midland, Michigan

Northwood University invited the community to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence with a full day of immersive history, live entertainment, and community celebration.

From Revolutionary-era reenactments to a free evening concert, Freedom Lights the Future brought families, classrooms, and the Midland community together to honor America’s founding ideals and look boldly toward the next 250 years.

Freedom Lights the Future Kick-off Events

Northwood University’s Freedom Lights the Future Festival on March 20, 2026, brought history, ideas, and community together for a full day of engaging experiences.

The event began with a thought-provoking faculty panel, “We Hold These Truths: How the Declaration of Independence Shaped America,” where distinguished professors explored the lasting impact of the nation’s founding principles on political institutions, economic freedom, and opportunity.

Throughout the day, campus came alive with immersive, Revolutionary-era experiences, as attendees interacted with historical figures, viewed militia demonstrations, and explored a curated museum exhibit.

The celebration concluded with an energetic evening concert, featuring Jedi Mind Trip and special performances by talented Northwood students, Brayden Lape and Steeler Leep, creating a memorable, all-ages experience that honored America’s past while inspiring its future.
