A the co-founder with his late wife, Maureen, of the family-owned and operated LaFontaine Automotive Group, established in 1980, Michael has been the source of countless incredible life changing initiatives and opportunities that build lifelong relationships, connect families and strengthen communities. With over 60 years’ experience in automotive sales, Michael is the owner of the fastest-growing dealer group in Michigan. This dynasty has expanded to include 29 retail locations, 51 franchises and eight full-service boy shop and collision centers across Michigan.

The impact of his experience, knowledge, dedication and commitment to the automotive industry resulted in the creation of thousands of jobs, career opportunities and business anchors for communities throughout Michigan and most importantly identified a core piece of the LaFontaine mission statement, which is to personalize the automotive experience. Michael’s leadership is not limited to the LaFontaine Automotive Group. He has volunteered his time to sit on numerous boards including: President of the Local Marketing Association Pontiac-Buick-GMC, Metro Jobbers, Toyota Local Marketing Association, Buick GMC Local Marketing Association, National Dealer Council – Pontiac, National Dealer Council – Buick GMC, National Dealer Council – Toyota, National Dealer Council – Cadillac, Knights of Columbus Grand Knight, and the National Guard to name a few.

Michael’s influence on individuals, businesses and communities has garnered him several prestigious honors: Toyota Presidents Award, Honda Presidents Award, North Central Region Whole Sale Dealer of the Year, Volkswagen Master Salesman, GM Mark of Excellence, Green Sustainability Award, NADA Achievement Award, and Citizen of the Year Huron Valley. Michael’s generosity is endless and he is relentlessly committed to “paying it forward.” He established Northwood University $100,000 four-year Educational Scholarship, in addition to providing real world experience to Northwood University students through the LaFontaine Automotive Group Internship Program. LaFontaine currently employees over 30 plus Northwood University graduates and is personally invested in the school having 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation family members who have graduated or are currently attending the university.

Michael is most dedicated and passionate about finding a cure for cancer. As a cancer survivor himself, Michael has raised millions of dollars in donations used to fund local cancer research. His efforts have positively impacted the quality of life for individuals and families in the state of Michigan.

Michael’s family is his pride and joy. Mike is bless with four beautiful children Mike Jr., Christie, Kelley, and Ryan, along with 15 amazing grandchildren.
