Volunteer Leader and Philanthropist
Mrs. Straus has been a very effective volunteer leader and philanthropist in the city of San Antonio, the state of Texas and nationally. Her volunteer roles have been active in the arts; health sciences; historical renovations; and women’s leadership. Included among her 14 Board member roles are the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio; National Council on the Arts; United Way of San Antonio; as well, she has supported over 37 different political activities since the 1960’s; and led the fundraising effort to renovate the historical Majestic Theater in San Antonio. She has received over 32 awards recognizing her dedicated involvement in making communities a better place to reside. She and her husband, Joe, strongly believe in the free enterprise system and capitalism.
