1980 – Houston, Texas

Ursula DeGeorge Simpson was born in Houston, Texas where her paternal grandparents were among the early settlers. Her family has long been prominent in real estate circles in the Houston area. Her two children, Sandra Lucas Malone (Mrs. C.M. Jr.) and Sam J. Lucas III, reside in Houston also. Mrs. Simpson attended public schools in Houston, graduated from Ward-Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee and later attended the University of Houston. Her many activities have included serving on the boards of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the Civic Music Association (as chairman of its membership drive), Bayou Bend, Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet and the Alley Theatre. In addition, she has been active in numerous civic and charitable organizations. Ursula Simpson has been a leading force in the development of the Houston chapter of the Northwood National Women’s Board. In addition to serving as its chairman, she was active in the highly successful Houston FAD auctions and was instrumental in planning and chairing the first galas on behalf of the college. She expresses her interest in Northwood: “Because the concept of Northwood is so basically American, I feel as if I am contributing to the future of our great country by supporting an institution which trains young people to continue what our forefathers established.” (Deceased 2002)
