Betsy Duncan Hammes

Betsy Duncan Hammes was born in Hollywood, California. Gifted with a combination of talent and dedication, Betsy Hammes launched a most successful career as a singer and actress. Her professional performances include variety concerts in Europe, the U.S.O. in Vietnam, nightclubs throughout the United States and appearances in movies and television. In 1969, she married Ever John Hammes, the founder of In-sink-erator Manufacturing Company in Racine, Wisconsin. Active and committed to civic, educational and humanitarian organizations, Mrs. Hammes has been involved in the Eisenhower Hospital Auxiliary, Easter Seals and the Desert Hospital Auxiliary. She and her late husband were dedicated to providing better medical facilities in the desert and, because of their efforts, the Ever J. Hammes Surgical Building became a reality. The Hammes’ were recipients of the Man and Woman of the Year Award, City of Hope. Betsy Hammes has praised Northwood’s philosophy by stating, “In today’s competitive world, education must be tailored for the times. Learning is important but the student must be able to apply it to his or her future work. Northwood indeed prepares the student for the future.”
