Doris Dixon

Doris Dixon was born in Lancaster, South Carolina. A former model and professional dancer, she attended San Diego State University. Mrs. Dixon was involved with the Dallas Opera Company, serving its board, its annual ball and as the 1978 chair. She held leadership positions in Dallas Opera Guild, Les Femmes du Monde, Theatre Three, Wolf Trap, Dallas Council of World Affairs Women’s Group, Dallas Theatre Center, Dallas Summer Musical Guild, TACA, Dallas Civic Ballet Women’s Committee, Dallas Symphony League, Crystal Charity, the Kidney Foundation of Texas, Science Place Guild and the Linz Award Committee. In addition, she chaired the Neiman-Marcus Fortnight, the Mayor’s International Ball and the Worldwide USO 45th Anniversary Gala. In 1983, she was elected to the board of the National Symphony Orchestra, Washington, D.C. She was active with Rotogravure Committee, Creative Learning Center, Dallas Museum of Fine Arts, the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Society and, in 1983, chaired the Silver Anniversary Gala of the Northwood National Women’s Board which greatly benefited the Texas campus. As a member of the Dallas Women’s Board she stated, “I believe wholeheartedly in the school’s philosophy: Free Enterprise. We owe an abundance of thanks to Northwood for teaching this important philosophy to their students and the world.” (Deceased 1995)
