Myrtle Willey is CEO and owner of T.W. Dick Co., Inc., Gardiner, Maine, a steel warehouse and fabricating plant. Myrt was active in AGC/America & Maine and in 1984 was the only woman honored with its MAC (major achievements in construction) Award. Myrt’s career began in fashion marketing, photography and management positions with public utilities. She became executive vice president of T.W. Dick Co. in 1968, president, treasurer and general manager in 1976 and majority stockholder in 1984. A community leader, Myrt was honored for leadership in business and volunteerism, received the 1985 Woman of Achievement award from Women’s Center at Westbrook College and an award from the University of Maine/Augusta for contributions to the arts. In 1987, Myrt was appointed by Governor McKernan to serve as vice-chairperson of the Governor’s Business Advisory Commission, Maine Commission for Women. She served as vice chair of Zonta International O&E Committee, director of the ZI Foundation Board, vice president/ secretary and ZI Centurion. In writing of Northwood, Myrt Willey said, “Having run the gamut from receptionist, personal secretary, marketing, photography, steel warehousing and fabrication, I am a prime example of the free enterprise system which is what Northwood University is all about. The ability to change from a structured educational system to meet current demands and needs take courage and determination. I am proud to be affiliated with Northwood University in any capacity.”
