Cathy Guisewite

Syndicated cartoonist Cathy Guisewite was born in Ohio, grew up in Midland, Michigan and graduated from the University of Michigan with a major in English. She has received honorary doctorate degrees from Rhode Island College, Eastern Michigan University and Russell Sage College. Her comic strip is carried in 1,200 newspapers worldwide and “Cathy” products are found in gift and department stores throughout the country. Cathy is married to Christopher Wilkinson and has one daughter. Cathy was named Outstanding Communicator of the Year by Los Angeles Advertising Women and received the Poetry/Literature Award from the Matrix: Midland, Michigan Festival of the Arts and Sciences. She won an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program and received the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanities Award from the State of Israel Bonds. She received the Paloma Award from the Los Angeles SPCA, the YWCA Silver Achievement Award and won the National Cartoonists Society’s Rueben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year, an award for which she was nominated six times. She’s included in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Women and is a member of the Delta Delta Delta fraternity.
