1988 – Dallas, Texas
Yvonne Watkins has chaired and been actively involved in various community activities throughout Texas. These include the Wildflower Trails, the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research and many committees for Northwood University. Over the three years she served as Northwood Auction chairman, she was responsible for raising over one-half million dollars. As Dallas Women’s Board chair, Ms. Watkins established a fundraising committee dedicated to the restoration of the campus library book committee for its support. She has been a business owner for many years. In 1980, she and a partner opened Eclectic Ideas, an interior design shop with a full custom department and a staff of five designers. Later, as sole proprietor of an interior design firm, Mrs. Watkins worked with clients to accomplish all aspects of interior design. This experience is the foundation of her interest in Northwood University. “Because of my business background, I am strongly committed to the principles of the free enterprise system and passing on those ideals to the entrepreneurs of tomorrow,” she said. A native Texan, Yvonne Watkins was born in Hughes Springs and is the mother of two children.
