Carolyn Cook Bookout

Carolyn Bookout has been an active member of the Houston chapter of Northwood’s National Women’s Board, president of the River Oaks Rose Club, an Advisory Trustee of the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, a member of the Bayou Bend Advisory Committee, a patron of the Junior League of Houston and a member of the Houston Youth Symphony & Ballet Honorary Advisory Board. She also served as an officer of the Leukemia Society. Mrs. Bookout graduated from Northwestern State University in Louisiana with a B.A. in Education and did post-graduate work at the University of Texas. She has been active with young people, co-hosting events for twelve years for the national high school seniors’ scholarship program, Century III Leaders Program. Carolyn and her husband, John F. Bookout, retired President and CEO of Shell Oil Company, were named Cultural Leaders of the Year (1984) in Houston and 1982 People of Vision by the Texas Society for the Prevention of Blindness. “I have been blessed with the opportunity to be associated with wonderful people doing wonderful things to make the world a better place in which to live and work. I think that sums up the ‘Northwood Idea’ and I feel honored and privileged to be able to further that noble goal,” Mrs. Bookout has said.
