Nell M.H. Smith

As a business woman, Nell Smith understands the vital need for business and management education programs. Born in Peoria, Illinois, trained at the Walton Business College in Chicago and affiliated for nineteen years with the Union League Club of Chicago, Nell Smith has many business associations. Always interested in helping young people, Nell was inspired by her meeting with Northwood Co-founder, Dr. Arthur Turner. A member of the Palm Springs chapter of the Northwood University Women’s Board since 1981, Nell has generously assisted many young students in continuing their education, She has contributed books for the campus libraries, designer gowns for the International Costume Collection, items for FAD auctions and financial gifts for scholarships. She is involved in community organizations including the Palm Springs Desert Museum, the Palm Springs Opera Guild of the Desert, Eisenhower Hospital Auxiliary, Palm Springs Pathfinders and others. She is also a life member of the College of the Desert Auxiliary in Palm Desert. Helping students attain educational goals has always been an important consideration for Nell Smith and she looks forward to future development at Northwood campuses. The University salutes her for her untiring efforts on behalf of its students. (Deceased 2002)
