1990 – Houston, Texas

Barbara Lane Jefferson was born to Harry and Helen Waugh Lane in Chicago. She has a B.A. from the University of Texas and has been a manager of her family’s ranching operations. She is married to Walter Jefferson, partner in the law firm of Cutrer & Jefferson. They have three children. Barbara was the chairperson of the Northwood University 1989 Gala and is a member of Northwood’s National Women’s Board in Houston. Mrs. Jefferson’s introduction to prominent musicians such as Rubinstein, Horowitz and Rachmaninoff encouraged her to become an accomplished pianist. Politically, she has served as administrative assistant to John White, past chairman, National Democratic Party, assistant campaign manager for Houston Mayor Lewis Cutrer and chairman of the Hostess Committee for the American Municipal Association. She has been a patron of the Houston Junior League and the Austin and New York Cotillion, member of the Ballet Guild, Museum of Fine Arts/Costume Collections, Delphian Society, Auxiliary to the Texas and Houston Bar Associations, American Heart Association Guild, March of Dimes Guild, American Cancer Society, Chapelwood Methodist Church, Houston Club and University Club, among others. In a world where mediocrity is too often the norm, Barbara Lane Jefferson believes Northwood’s spirit and dedication to excellence is a “shining light.”
