Barbara S. Tober is President of Acronym, Inc., a venture capital firm which invests in craft related projects. She is a partner in Guild.com, Madison, Wisconsin, publishers of directories of artists and artisans across the U.S.A. specifically for architects, interior designers, gallery owners, wholesale buyers and collectors. Guild.com also publishes educational art books and owns an Internet site: Guild.com. Ms. Tober is also chairman of the American Craft Museum and her Foundation funds educational arts projects for children nationwide. Her belief that “Crafts are the Art of the 21st Century” will be substantiated by an upcoming economic impact study. Prior to her career in the world of craft art and craftsmanship, she spent over four decades in the corporate advertising and magazine world, most recently at Conde Nast’s Bride’s magazine where she was Editor-in-Chief for almost 30 years. She appeared as a spokesperson for the $32 billion wedding industry on numerous television and radio talk shows and has been profiled and quoted extensively in the print media. Ms. Tober has served on the boards of a number of organizations such as the Women’s Forum and International Furnishings and Design Association, which gave her its award for excellence. Other awards have included the American Craft Museum Award, New York Women in Communications “60 Years of Success” Award, and the UJA Federation Award. Ms. Tober is married to Donald G. Tober, Chairman and CEO of Sugar Foods Corporation.
