Attorney Tina Sutow VanDam is Corporate Secretary and Managing Counsel of The Dow Chemical Company. She joined the company in 1987 and served on the management staffs of Dow’s four insurance subsidiaries. Since 1989, she has been providing legal counsel in corporate and securities law, including the Board of Directors functions, Dow’s corporate governance, the proxy statement and annual meeting, federal regulation of stock-based executive compensation and stock trading and shareholder services. She was responsible for political law. She was elected an Assistant Secretary of the Company in 1993, appointed Director of the Office of the Corporate Secretary in 1996 and elected Secretary in June 2001. Prior to joining Dow, Mrs. VanDam was Director of Fund Development for MidMichigan Medical Center for six years. She left to attend the University of Michigan Law School, receiving a Juris Doctor with honors in 1987. She completed legal internships in the Federal District Court-Eastern District of Michigan and the Prosecutor’s Office-Midland. Her undergraduate degree is a BA in Communications with honors from Michigan State University and did graduate course work in marketing at the School of Business Administration, Wayne State University. Mrs. VanDam was elected as a Director of the American Society of Corporate Secretaries in June 2001. She was named a Woman of Distinction of 1996 by the Mitten Bay Girl Scout Council for her community volunteerism. She serves on the Saginaw Valley State University Foundation and has held various positions with the Midland Foundation, United Way of Midland County, Midland Rotary Club, Arts Midland, Midland Center for the Arts, Family and Children’s Service and several other community organizations. Professional affiliations include the American Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, the Midland County Bar Association and American Society of Corporate Secretaries. She is married to attorney Philip VanDam and has a daughter and son-in-law who are physicians in Boston.
