Barbara Doljack Hayes is a marketing executive with strengths in management and public relations. A strategic thinker, and an energetic and determined worker, she has been a role model to hundreds of young women. She is known for her sensitive encouragement of individual potential in her staff, while maintaining her focus on the good of the company and community. At Seventeen magazine for over twenty years, Barbara rapidly rose through the ranks to become Marketing Director responsible for merchandising, promotion and public relations. Her expertise in trends in the teen market helped retailers, manufacturers and advertisers effectively reach the magazine’s 14 million readers. Barbara directed national special events and developed retail promotions as well as programs for educators, enabling them to use Seventeen in classroom discussions. Since 1996, as special events director for the Mount Vernon Hotel Museum, she has managed the annual major fundraiser “Designers’ Fare,” featuring the talents of the interior design elite. She has also worked on the corporate patron program of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A volunteer since high school, Barbara has served on numerous boards: the New York Junior League, Search and Care (an elder care agency), The Girls Club of New York, The Fashion Group; and has been president and chairman of the board of Friends of the Henry Street Settlement. Barbara has been listed in Who’s Who of American Women, World’s Who’s Who, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry and Outstanding Young Women in America. She and her husband, investment advisor James Hayes, reside in New York City and Shelter Island.
