Ruth Buzzi, a classic comedy legend, is perhaps best known for her roles on “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In”, but has accomplished so much more. On her very first audition, she got a lead in an Off-Broadway musical revue, which led to 18 more musical revues throughout her career. In between these shows, she did a multitude of national television and radio commercials along with voice overs for cartoon series. Ruth’s first major appearance was on “The Garry Moore Show”. Soon after, she became a regular on Carol Burnett’s “The Entertainers”. At this time, Ruth was also cast in Broadway’s original “Sweet Charity” and a year and a half later was asked to join “The Steve Allen Comedy Hour” series. During that show she auditioned for “Laugh-In’s” 2 hour special. It got picked up and while waiting for it to commence, she played Marlo Thomas’ girlfriend on “That Girl”. In the years following, Ruth guest-starred on just about every musical variety show with multiple appearances on “Flip,” “Donnie & Marie,” “Dean Martin’s Hour,” “Carol Burnett and Friends” and many others. She performed her club act throughout the U.S. including Las Vegas, and was in 21 feature films. Ruth has guest-starred on multitudes of series such as ” Alice,” “Diagnosis Murder” and ” Medical Center”. Recently she taped her seventh season on ” Sesame Street” and this season has a running part on N.B.C.’s soap “Passions” as Nurse Cravits. This talented actress has won the coveted Golden Globe Award and has been nominated for five Emmy Awards. The NAACP presented her its prestigious “Image Award,” and Ruth’s home state placed her in its ” Rhode Island” Hall of Fame. She was recently inducted into the National Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
