Gail French Torreano

January 1, 2005

2005 – Mount Pleasant, Michigan

Gail Torreano has always wanted to impact people’s lives in a positive way. Maybe that’s why she was drawn to politics and government in her early career, working for former Michigan Gov. John Engler, when he was the state’s Senate Majority Leader. She eventually became his chief of staff. In 1991, she joined Michigan Bell in their office of governmental affairs. Weathering mergers and legislative upheavals in the communications industry, she made her way up the company’s corporate ladder and now is President of SBC Michigan. She is the company’s first female president, and is responsible for regulatory and legislative affairs as well as community and industry relations. She’s known for her emphasis on relationships and team building. Gail makes it a priority to give back to the community and the state. She is a past Chair of the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce, and a board member of Detroit Renaissance. She has served on numerous community boards and is currently the Corporate Chair of the Metro Detroit READS program. In addition, Gail serves on the Board of Trustees for both New Detroit and her alma mater, Central Michigan University. While Gail is committed to her job as President of SBC Michigan, her true passion is her family. Gail, her husband, George, and their two sons, Matt and Joe, live in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
