Carolyn Magill Watts was graduated from the Atlanta Conservatory of Music and was a student at Columbia University. She was a member of the Southern California Symphony Association, Pasadena Opera Guild and numerous other civic groups. Her father, James William Magill, a journalist, was associated with the Atlanta Constitution. Her late husband, Dr. V. Orval Watts, was an economic consultant, professor, author and lecturer and received the degrees of Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in economics from Harvard University. He is credited as the “economic philosopher” of Northwood and served for many years as a distinguished faculty member. Carolyn Watts served as a hostess for many Northwood events and was the founder of the California branch of Northwood’s Library League. Over her lifetime she was responsible for collecting thousands of volumes for the campus libraries. “I am impressed with the philosophy taught at Northwood,” said Carolyn, “and with the dedication of those persons connected with the college to the development of the students’ personalities, characters and leadership qualities. I am also very interested in the fine library and in obtaining books to be placed there.” (Deceased1995)
