Nancy LePard Barker

Nancy Barker began her association with Northwood as a member and then chair of Town & Campus of the National Women’s Board. Professionally she founded the Northwood Careers for Women department, directed and chaired the Fashion Merchandising department, was an assistant professor, served on the University’s executive committee, and coordinated the arts, national constituents and external affairs departments. She is now Vice President of University Relations and Marketing. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Michigan and valedictorian of her class, she is a former instructor at the U of M Hospital School and co-author of a series of books for hospitalized children. Mrs. Barker is past president of the National Council of Women of the United States, New York, served on the board of the International Council of Women, Paris, is past chairman of MATRIX:MIDLAND, the Midland Art Council (Arts Midland) and the Midland Symphony League, was state president of International Furnishings and Design Association, served on the board of Concerned Citizens for the Arts in Michigan, is a member of the International and Michigan Women’s Forums, Zonta, The Fashion Group and a two time nominee to the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame. She also served on the area board of First of America Bank. Nancy is a member of Contemporary Review Club, Delta Delta Delta, received Arts Midland’s 25th Anniversary Award, served on the founding board of the Midland Center for the Arts and was Northwood University’s first woman officer. She is listed in four different editions of Who’s Who and was named Outstanding Young Woman of the Year in 1968 by the Outstanding Americans Foundation. She and her husband, attorney R. William Barker, are the parents of nine children and ten grandchildren.
