1972 – Sun City Center, Florida & Bay View and Midland, Michigan

Mrs. Charles Ames Maywood was Academic Counselor and the Assistant to the Dean of Students at Northwood in its very early years and in these capacities gave priceless motivation and guidance to hundreds of students. Gwendolyn Maywood brought to Northwood her experience as an instructor in social science at Jennings Seminary and as instructor in social science and Dean of Students at Saginaw (MI) High School. After taking her B.A. at Albion College, Gwendolyn continued her education, earning her M.A. at the University of Michigan and doing graduate work at the University of Chicago. As she progressed, many honors and awards were earned. Among those were the Woman of the Year, Saginaw Quota Club, the Town & Campus Silver Circle Service Award and her listings in Marquis Who’s Who in the Mid-West 1972-73. She was president and chairman of the board of the Bay View Women’s Council in northern Michigan and active in the Dorcas Group of the United Community Church. In spite of the pace of her vocational activity, Mrs. Maywood advanced the causes of many fine organizations. Among her varied interests were Altrusa International, United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Big Sisters, Saginaw First Ward Community Center, YWCA, St. Mary’s Nursing School, Northwood’s National Library League and the Orange Blossom chapter of Questers. She and her husband, Ames, never lost their enthusiasm for, nor interest in, Northwood students. (Deceased 1994)
