Mrs. J. Ernest Mitchell attended the University of Denver and the University of Michigan and is a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and Alpha Sigma Chi honorary chemical society. Betty Mitchell has served as chairman of the volunteer services for the American Red Cross, has been active in the Midland, Michigan Hospital Auxiliary and is past president of Alpha Guild of St. John’s Episcopal Church and Zoe Club. She was formerly a member of the Midland Art Council and the Symphony League and was League chairman for the Fall House Walk. Betty has served Northwood’s Town & Campus chapter of the National Women’s Board as a charter member and past chairman of the Executive Board. She was chairman of the Library League of Michigan and served as founding chairman of the Northwood Gallery. Mrs. Mitchell has served as hostess for many Northwood celebrity guest speakers. In 1971, Betty received the Northwood Town & Campus Silver Circle Service Award. Betty and her husband, Mitch, have two children (Deceased 2003)
