For Admitted Students
Once you’ve been admitted and decide to attend, you confirm your enrollment by submitting your enrollment deposit. At Northwood, you can pay your deposit online via the Timberwolf Terminal, by phone, or by mail.
- For residential (on-campus housing) students, the deposit is currently $250 (applied as $100 toward housing security deposit and $150 toward tuition).
- For commuter students, the deposit is $150 (applied toward tuition).
- The deposit is fully refundable if you cancel by the deadline (for first-year students: until May 1 of the year of fall admission) if you change your mind.
Once submitted, this triggers access to a “Final Enrollment Checklist” in your Timberwolf Terminal, which lets you complete other required items (housing agreement, orientation registration, transcript submission, health forms, etc.).
After you submit your enrollment deposit and complete required admittance paperwork (transcripts, housing or commuter status, etc.), you’ll get access to registration through the university’s portal. The “Final Enrollment Checklist” that becomes available includes setting up your account, submitting final transcripts, and other to-dos required before class registration.
Additionally, you’ll register for orientation through that same portal. Orientation typically happens before classes begin, so that’s your first step toward getting scheduled.
If you plan to live on campus, make sure your housing contract is submitted before registering for classes, because housing status can affect your schedule or campus resources.
After you submit your deposit, you’ll gain access to a “Final Enrollment Checklist” in Timberwolf Terminal. This includes several tasks that incoming students need to complete. Typical tasks include:
- Housing Contract (if living on-campus)
- Orientation Registration
- Enrollment Waivers
- Health / Healthcare Form
- Setting up Student Account (My.NU)
- Parking Pass Registration (if bringing a car)
- Submitting Final, Official Transcripts
- Other items based on eligibility: e.g. Honors application, 4-Year BBA/MBA track form, uploading a photo for your student ID card.
You should complete these items as they become available (usually between November and March for fall admits) to ensure a smooth start. Also: schedule or plan for orientation and campus visit (if you haven’t already), to get acquainted with campus life, meet fellow students, and get ready for classes.
After submitting your deposit, one of the checklist items in the Timberwolf Terminal is “Setting up Your My.Northwood Account.” Once your My.Northwood account is active, you’ll receive credentials to access your student portal, email, course registration system, and learning-management system (LMS) such as Blackboard. This ensures you’ll be ready to view your schedule, access syllabi, log into classes, and receive official communications.
If you encounter any issues with login or account setup, the university’s Admissions Office can assist.
If you intend to live on campus, you’ll need to complete and submit a Residential Agreement (Housing Contract) through the Timberwolf Terminal once it becomes available.
If you select commuter status (i.e., living off-campus or with family), you’ll follow the commuter deposit process and skip the residential housing contract.
Note: On-campus living and meal-plan eligibility may be required for residents depending on your residence hall. Please refer to the housing contract and residence requirements for specifics.
Soon after your deposit is accepted, you’ll get access to orientation registration via the Timberwolf Terminal. Orientation typically takes place before the start of classes; it’s your opportunity to meet advisors, complete placement/registration tasks, get your class schedule, and learn about campus resources.
If you’re a resident, you’ll also complete the housing contract and likely receive move-in instructions (dates, check-in procedures, etc.). These details are ordinarily communicated via your NU email and portal as part of the “Final Enrollment Checklist.”
We highly recommend a newer name-brand computer, with a web camera, as your main computing tool which will be essential for individual study and group collaboration. As long as your computer is running a recent version of Windows or MacOS and has a web camera you will not need to purchase a new device. Please be sure to install the latest version of Microsoft Office on your device.
Determining what type of laptop best suits you depends on your personal preferences. Please keep in mind that a computer is a tool and students should purchase the computer that they will be most comfortable using on a daily basis. In general, a suitable computer purchase should include a speedy CPU, plenty of memory, a high capacity hard drive, Wi-Fi capability (802.11g/n), a web camera, comfortable screen size and have Microsoft Office installed. You will also want your computer to provide you service throughout your years at Northwood University, so carefully consider important options such as extended warranties such as accidental damage protection and an extended battery warranty.
If you are unable to purchase your own device or choose not to bring anything, Northwood has several on-campus academic computer labs, with a capacity of over 335 workstations available for student use.
