Developing the Future Leaders of GM’s Automotive Retailers 

Earlier this month, Northwood University announced a new partnership with General Motors giving their dealers and their employees the ability to pursue bachelors and masters degrees, as well as continuing education opportunities, in automotive marketing, business, and leadership. The program is an exciting and essential development for the future of both our University and General Motors, and showcases how each of us is building on our long history as a leader in innovation. 

Designed to attract and retain talent, build skills and increase employee engagement across all GM brands—Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac—the new program enables GM dealers, their employees, and GM field employees to choose from three unique retail professional development learning opportunities customized specifically for the automaker’s needs: 

  • GM/Northwood University Advanced Leadership Program
  • Automotive Marketing & Management Bachelor of Business Administration
  • GM/DeVos Graduate School  Executive Master of Business Administration

"We know our people are key players in our mission to build the most customer-centric automobile company on earth,” said Chris Bower, senior manager – GM Sales, Service and Marketing Center of Learning. “We chose Northwood University as our educational partner because of the institution’s unique focus on business and automotive marketing/management education. The university’s long history with automotive retail management allowed its academic specialists to customize a program specifically tailored to the needs of GM dealership partners and their future leaders.”

More than 1,000 GM dealers and other GM dealership employees have earned or are earning a bachelor’s degree in automotive marketing and management from Northwood. This program affords even more GM dealership employees the opportunity to enhance their industry knowledge or gain a university degree, and it is a prime example of how Northwood is executing its strategic plan through new programs and curricula, new enrollment channels, and brand reputation.

And as a further “complement” between our university and the automotive industry, our 50th Anniversary Northwood University International Auto Show is taking place this weekend, September 27-29. If you are in Michigan, come out and enjoy the Show and all the Homecoming activities.
