Northwood University Restructuring Texas Operations to Better Serve Changing Market

MIDLAND, Michigan (February 27, 2014) - Northwood University announced today a restructuring of its Texas operations to adapt to the new reality of today's higher education market. These significant actions will ensure its Texas operations' ongoing relevance, vitality, and financial strength to provide students with a world-class business education.

The restructuring actions will include:

  • Ceasing its residential operations at the Cedar Hill, Texas, location
  • Continuing to expand its successful Adult Degree Program (ADP) and DeVos Graduate School of Management programs in Texas
  • Optimizing Texas operations by re-aligning personnel, resources, and services in line with the restructured operations

"Since 1966, Northwood University - Texas has offered an excellent business education experience," said Keith Pretty, President and CEO, Northwood University. "In order to get ahead of the hyper-competitive higher education market, we are restructuring our Texas operations, and realigning and optimizing resources to achieve the right mix of traditional and non-traditional learning models, for Northwood University to continue our success well into the future."

"We are working hard to maintain the ability of our current and future students to successfully achieve their education goals within the Northwood University system." said Northwood University - Texas Campus President, Kevin Fegan.

Undergraduate students currently enrolled in the traditional residential, four-year degree programs at the Cedar Hill, Texas campus will be offered two options in which to complete their Northwood University bachelor's degrees: either through the schools' ADP program centers – including the Cedar Hill, TX location or enroll at one of Northwood's other residential campuses in Midland, MI., or West Palm Beach, FL. Northwood University will also be assisting students who desire to transfer to other educational institutions.

"This necessary restructuring of our Texas Operations enables Northwood University to leverage our strengths, increase our ability to deliver a high quality education, and to better focus on achieving our vision and mission. The decisions we are making now reflect the rapidly changing higher education environment and are designed to position us to best serve the university and our students' long term interests in the Northwood Idea of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and excellence in business," stated Pretty.
