Northwood Mock Trial Students Present Program to Midland Rotary

The Noon Rotary Club of Midland invited Northwood University’s nationally ranked Mock Trial team to speak at their May meeting. Four students provided an overview on the progress of their team during the school year.

The team also explained how a round of mock trial is conducted at tournaments around the nation, as well as the type of competition they routinely face at such tournaments. The students provided a demonstration of one component of a trial—opening statements. After hearing an opening statement for both the prosecution and defense, Rotarians had a much better understanding of how this program allows students to use their critical thinking and communications skills to compete in this simulation that requires exceptional team work.

The four students who participated in this event were: Amee Cox, a junior from Liverpool, England; Stephanie Hentschel, a junior from Midland; Myisha Ishmeal, a junior from Detroit; and Ibrahim Lawton, a junior from Detroit.
